Alexander Farman-Farmaian joined Edgewood in January 2006. Prior to joining Edgewood, Alex was for 19 years a senior member of the Portfolio Management team at W.P. Stewart & Co. where he chaired the Investment Oversight Committee. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR – NY), the World Presidents’ Organization (WPO), and serves as a Trustee of the International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC), an organization that promotes access to health services and fundamental human rights of women and girls around the world. Alex also serves on the National Board of CollegeSpring, a non-profit which educates low income high-school children in SAT college entry testing. Alex was formerly President of the Princeton Club of New York, is a member of the Economics Club of New York and is on the board of Kalinat S.A., a potato chip manufacturing company in Caracas, Venezuela.
He received a BA in Economics from Princeton University in 1987, and speaks fluent French, Spanish, Farsi and conversational Italian.
Jim Robillard worked at Baron Capital Management from 1996 – 1999 and worked at Van Wagoner Capital Management from 1999 – 2002. After graduating business school, he was hired by Edgewood Management LLC in 2004 as a Senior Research Analyst.
After 11 years with the Firm, Edgewood offered him the chance to start Spyglass Capital Management with the backing of the Company and its senior management. Edgewood is an equity owner of Spyglass and all of its partners are investors in the Fund.
Jim graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA and received an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business with concentrations in Finance and Accounting.
Samantha McLemore, CFA currently serves as a Portfolio Manager for Opportunity Equity. Samantha has worked with Bill on Opportunity Equity for over 15 years. She started at Legg Mason Capital Management in 2002 as an analyst, was named Assistant Portfolio Manager of Opportunity Equity in 2008 and became co-Portfolio Manager in 2014. She has served as the Portfolio Manager for the Dublin-based Opportunity Fund since its 2009 launch. Samantha graduated magna cum laude from Washington & Lee University with a BS in Business Administration and Accounting, where she was a recipient of the Lewis Kerr Johnson Scholarship and the Accounting Department Scholarship.
She received her CFA designation in 2005 and is a member of the CFA Society Baltimore. Samantha also serves on the Board of Directors for the Next Generation Investing Conference, an event to raise funds for three local not-for-profit educational institutions. In 2017, Samantha was named one of Baltimore’s 40 Under 40 by the Baltimore Business Journal.
Brian joined CRM in 2005 and serves as the Firm’s Chief Investment Officer and was named co-CEO of CRM following the Firm’s buyback transaction completed on September 30, 2019. He maintains overall responsibility for the Firm’s investment team and the Firm’s management and strategic direction. Brian is also a co-portfolio manager of CRM Small Cap Value and a senior research analyst focusing on the financial and real estate sectors in CRM’s investment group. Prior to CRM, he was an equity research analyst at Fox-Pitt, Kelton. Brian also spent four years as an accountant in the financial services audit practice at KPMG LLP and earned his CPA designation. He received a BS from Fairfield University.
Mimi Morris joined CRM in 2010 and is a portfolio manager on CRM Long/Short Opportunities and a senior research analyst covering the consumer sectors in CRM’s investment group. Prior to CRM, Mimi was a Director at Telsey Advisory Group where she was an equity analyst and consultant. She has additional financial experience from Merrill Lynch, Columbia House Company, and Donaldson, Lufkin, and Jenrette. She received a BA from Williams College and an MBA from Columbia Business School. Mimi serves on the Board of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.
Mr. Berger is the co-founder, Chief Executive and Chief Investment Officer of Birch Grove Capital. Mr. Berger is Chairman of the firm’s Investment Committee and a member of the Risk Committee. Prior to founding Birch Grove, he was the President and CIO of Stone Tower Capital LLC, a $17 billion alternative credit asset management firm, where he was directly responsible for overseeing all investment activities including $2 billion in credit hedge funds and chaired the firm’s investment committees.
At Stone Tower, he managed 73 employees internationally, including an experienced team of 24 investment professionals. Prior to that, Mr. Berger was a co-founder and partner of Pegasus Capital Advisors L.P., a special situations private-equity fund managing over $1.1 billion. He was responsible for developing and managing Pegasus’ investments in the public security markets and highly structured security investments.
Prior to that, he was a vice president in the High-Yield and Distressed Securities Group at UBS Securities LLC, a principal at Rosecliff, Inc., a middle-market private equity fund, and an associate in the Leveraged Finance Group at Salomon Brothers Inc. Mr. Berger holds a B.S. in Economics with a concentration in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Michael Azlen is a senior investment professional with 25 years of industry experience including the founding, growth and sale of a regulated investment management business.
After a 15 year career spanning two Canadian banks and several alternative asset management companies, Mr. Azlen founded Frontier Investment Management in 2005 and grew the business to profitability before selling the business to a public company in 2013 and completing his earnout in 2016.
Michael then focused on research into climate change and impact investment strategies. As we have seen from recent record-breaking heatwaves and increased incidences of drought/wildfires, our climate is changing rapidly due to human generated emissions. The next 10 to 20 years are the most important period for mankind to make substantial and sustainable emissions reductions and the urgency of this objective cannot be overstated as the potential negative impacts to society are immense.
Michael formed Carbon Cap Management LLP in 2018 as an environmental asset manager focused on climate change and launched the World Carbon Fund in February 2020. The fund invests into multiple liquid and regulated carbon markets and aims to generate strong uncorrelated returns and a direct impact on carbon emissions. Carbon Cap’s mission is to raise awareness about climate change and to provide solutions directly related to the capping and reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
Mr. Azlen holds a Sloan Masters Degree in Leadership and Strategy from London Business School and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and has completed the LSE’s “Economics and Governance of Climate Change” course. Mr. Azlen is a regular speaker at investment conferences and has been a guest lecturer on the graduate degree programs at London Business School for more than 15 years.
Michael Hall is a Founding Partner, CIO and Portfolio Manager at Nickel Digital Asset Management, who has over 25 years of experience trading macro, commodity and fixed income relative value portfolios in hedge funds and investment banks. Prior to joining Nickel, he traded a FIRV portfolio for a multi-billion-dollar hedge fund in Madrid and traded for Bankers Trust’s New York arbitrage prop desk. Michael graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester and obtained an MBA in Finance from the Wharton Business School.
Russell has worked in the investment business for 30 years and has been writing global macro strategy for institutional investors since 1995. Russell is author of Anatomy of The Bear: Lessons From Wall Street’s Four Great Bottoms and founder and course director of the Practical History of Financial Markets course at The University of Edinburgh. Russell is on the board of a listed investment trust - Mid Wynd International Investment Trust and a member of the Investment advisory committees of three fund management companies.
In 2014 he founded the Library of Mistakes a business and financial history library in Edinburgh. Russell has degrees in law from Queen’s University Belfast and Magdalene College Cambridge is a Fellow of The CFA Society of the UK and is an Honorary Professor at both Heriot-Watt University and The University of Stirling.
Bill Miller is the Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of and a Portfolio Manager for Miller Value Partners. He is famously known for beating the S&P 500 for 15 consecutive years during his tenure as sole manager of the Legg Mason Value Trust. He has earned numerous accolades as a money manager, including Fund Manager of the Decade by Morningstar and the Sauren Golden Award in 2015 and 2019.
Bill co-founded Legg Mason Capital Management in 1981 and served as the Firm’s Chairman and CIO for nearly 30 years. Bill was the director of research for Legg Mason from October 1981 through June 1985 and assumed overall responsibility for Legg Mason’s equity funds management division in 1990. Prior to Legg Mason, he served as treasurer of the JE Baker Company, a major manufacturer of products for the steel and cement industries.
Bill earned his economics degree from Washington and Lee University where he graduated with honors in 1972. Subsequent to graduation, he served as a military intelligence officer overseas, and then pursued graduate studies in philosophy in the PhD program at The Johns Hopkins University. He received his CFA designation in 1986. Bill is Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of the Santa Fe Institute, one of the world’s leading scientific research laboratories, where he served as Chairman from 2005 to 2009.
James Alexander co-founded Aravis Capital and is responsible for the firm’s Sales and Sales Management. James has 30 years’ experience specialising in financial product sales in institutional equities and investment management.
